At Myriam Language School, we really make sure to include students’ needs and match the lesson content and length according to their profile.
The positive aspects about a 60-minute lesson is that it enables the students to work fully and into depth in the 4 skills ( reading, writing, speaking and listening) while a 45-minute lesson is obviously shorter and more condensed. However, we realised that a shorter session is indeed more productive and conducive in learning with ADHD students but also students with concentration issue. Indeed, quality is better than quantity. However, this obviously implies that the student may need more time to go through the whole module content, yet in a positive/productive teaching and learning environment with excellent outcome and grades for the national GCSE / A Level French and Spanish exams.
On another hand, the 60-minute lesson can also be extremely beneficial for what we called gifted and talented or highly advanced students who can produce longer piece of writings during the lessons which need to be monitored and guided online by the teacher.
